Overview
Micro-embossed (gravured) films are made from different polymers on a chill roll with a gravure application and the cast film process. The pattern gives softness, a textile-like resemblance, noiselessness, and a matte surface that reduces heat and aids absorbance.
Films can be produced with nano-cells or with a barrier structure, depending on demand. Nano-cell films are used in technical textiles and industrial composites and allow low, controlled water-vapour transmission and ventilation. Barrier films form a monolithic structure that blocks even the smallest virus particles; they are used in the medical sector, including personal protection from viruses such as H1N1, Ebola and SARS.
The best-known application is film for adult diapers with controlled ventilation. The Spunsuper 54 and 63 grades are used to produce Spunbond Biflex and Triplex, and as layers of viscose Biflex and Triplex in drapes, gowns, aprons and compresses.
